Our Story

The Placitas Community Library is a grassroots effort to establish a permanent library in Placitas. We engage the community by bringing residents together to participate in establishing and maintaining the library and its collections. We believe that our library contributes positively to the development of community pride and spirit.

We provide and promote open and equal access to our resources and services in order to meet the informational, educational, technological, and cultural needs of our diverse community in a welcoming, convenient, and responsive manner.

Our motto is, “Una Placita Para Todos — A Place for Everyone.”

We will have a program for children and their parents presented by the Wings of Enchantment Butterfly Farm.  Learn about the life cycle stages of a butterfly.  The program, "Life Cycle Journey" is appropriate for preschool through elementary kids.  The activities are interactive and children will see, touch, and experience things such as holding caterpillars, watching mama butterflies lay eggs, and feed free-flying butterflies plus more! Learn how you can help butterflies continue to thrive.

Mikail Deese, founder and owner of the bird rescue, "On A Wing and A Prayer" will introduce three owls that are native to the area.  You can ask questions and take photos with the owls. She will provide information on the best ways to help wild birds. This program is for all ages.

Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of the Placitas Community Library, performing day-to-day activities at the library such as assisting our patrons at the Help Desk, shelving materials, and cataloging. Volunteers also help with special events, art and design, landscaping, publicity, and more. All levels and types of skills are needed. If you would like to join us, we’d love to have you.
