DESCRIPTION:Opening event: Join us at the Placitas Community Library for our summer reading programs.  All programs are on Saturdays at 1:00 starting June 7.  Our theme is “Color Our World” – all about art and artists.  Your children will have an opportunity to experience and create a variety of art forms.  We will start on June 7 with a dog comedy about the missing Mona Lisa painting from the Louvre art gallery in Paris\, France and end on July 26 with Explora helping your children to do colorful experiments. In between\, there will opportunities to be creative and learn new art techniques.  On June 28\,  awarding winning Navajo children’s author and illustrator\, Daniel Vendever\, will read from his books.

DESCRIPTION:In 1997\, Dennis Bumgarner and his son\, Jon\, rode their bicycles 3196 miles over the course of thirty-two days\, from the Pacific Ocean at Dillon Beach\, California to the Atlantic at Rehoboth Beach\, Delaware.  Over the Sierra Nevada Mountains\, across the Great Basin\, traversing the Rockies\, across the plains and over the Appalachians and on to the eastern seaboard\, the ride taxed their stamina\, both physical and emotional. During this informal program\, Dennis will recount this adventure.

DESCRIPTION:Placitas Community Library’s spring Star Party will be April 5\, beginning at 6pm with Solar viewing. At 7pm The Albuquerque Astronomical Society (TAAS) own Star Master teach us about the multitude of star which will be in view that night—  First Quarter Moon\, the planets Uranus\, Jupiter and Mars\, bright stars…..Sirius\, Procyon\, Rigel\, Betelgeuse\, Regulus\, Capella\, and Arcturus…..and a number of open and globular star clusters. By then the sky will be dark and the stars will have begun to show themselves. Viewing will continue into the night. There will be a variety of types and sizes of telescopes to guide you to the wonders of our dark skies.
