First event: Saturday, June 7, 2025 1-3 PM
Join us at the Placitas Community Library for our summer reading programs. All programs are on Saturdays at 1:00 starting June 7. Our theme is “Color Our World” – all about art and artists. Your children will have an opportunity to experience and create a variety of art forms. We will start on June 7 with a dog comedy about the missing Mona Lisa painting from the Louvre art gallery in Paris, France and end on July 26 with Explora helping your children to do colorful experiments. In between, there will opportunities to be creative and learn new art techniques. On June 28, awarding winning Navajo children’s author and illustrator, Daniel Vendever, will read from his books.
We hope to see you at the Placitas Community Library this summer.
Una Placitas Para Todos; A Place For Everyone!
Please complete this form (.docx or .pdf) to register your child for the summer programs. Follow the instructions on the form to return it.
Additional Information: The art project on June 14 is a Wet Felting Workshop to create a piece of art from felt led by our own Nancy Guist and her sister-in-law, Hilary Spittle. On June 21, local artist, Laura Robbins, will teach your children how to make a kaleidoscope. In July, children will create a collage with the help of members of our talented art committee members. On July 18, artist Kay Naranjo, will lead a rock painting program. There will be many chances to learn new techniques and be creative.
Also, children can participate in a Summer Reading Challenge to keep their reading skills sharp and make them even sharper. There will be prizes awarded through out the seven week challenge. Our goal is for participants to read at least 1,000 books beating last year’s total of over 800! You can sign your child up for the program at the help desk or on line using the form provided. Just follow the directions on the form. (See link above.)
Our volunteers look forward to seeing you and your children this summer at the Placitas Library. We love providing educational and entertaining activities.
