Art Exhibit: Roger Evans’ Retrospective
This retrospective exhibition was mounted in celebration of the 90th birthday of Roger Evans, one of Placitas’s most cherished and colorful long-time residents.
Assembled by the PCL Art Committee, the exhibit includes examples of the architectural illustrations that helped support Evans’s early life in Placitas and models for a unique forward looking community envisioned by Evans but never realized.
There are also fantastical landscapes containing multiple-unit dwellings populated by a coterie of cows and other anthropomorphized beasts. These reveal not only the artist’s skillful hand but also his playful imagination. Fanciful sculptures and constructions also appear in the exhibit. Sly social commentary and the artist’s offbeat humor permeate his entire body of work.
As Roger might say, “have fun with it.”
