Art Exhibit: Winter Wonders
Winter is the season of contrasts, days rich with striking juxtapositions. Grey skies offer brilliant crystalline glints when the sun peeks through. Loved ones cuddle near a warm fireplace, hot drink in hand to ward off the frigid chill. For those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, it is the coldest, darkest season, but also the wondrous time when we welcome the solstice and the sun’s gradual return.
Beginning in January and continuing through February, Placitas Community Library’s Art Committee exhibition features works by nearly a dozen artists who take their cue from the winter season that is once again upon us.
Variety is the hallmark of the exhibition which includes everything from landscape paintings and solar lights to photography and assemblage. Allen Bourne, Rebecca Cohen, Lauren Deyo, Pea S. Garr, Patricia Gould, Karen Jacobs, Lavon Maestas, Susan Pine, Elizabeth Potter, Margaret Shannon, Dianna Shomaker, Katherine Wilson and Mary Beth Woiccak are the featured artists whose work is available for viewing and purchase. Twenty five percent of all sales benefit the library.
Exhibition coordinators Linda Hughes and Jeanie Pawlowski warmly invite the public to a reception on Friday, January 17 from 5 to 7 pm for refreshments and an opportunity to visit with the artists.
