Assembled by members of the Jardineros Photography Club, the exhibit entitled “Life in Focus” reflects a broad spectrum of photographic intent and technique.
This manifests in the effort of these dedicated local photographers to push the medium beyond making a record of personal history and toward “an interpretation of reality, not a documentation of reality,” as Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide once described.
Michael Wile, the group’s coordinator for the exhibition, points out that JPG is one of several special interest groups formed under the auspices of the Placitas organization “Jardineros.” He goes on to say that the group takes its name “from the file extension of an image saved in a compressed image format standardized by the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG).” Members meet monthly and critique each others work, providing everyone, no matter their level of experience and achievement, an opportunity to grow.
Participants in “Life in Focus” include John Allen, Allen Bourne, Roz Corriere, Jeff Doll, Vicki Kimmel, Harriet Neal, Jim Neal, Michael Payton, Charlotte Perry, Mike Stoy, Michael Wile and Joan Wood.
