There was a Time: An Exhibit of the Photography of Wayne Jones
Collin Meeting Room featuring “Wayne Jones’ Placitas: There Was a Time”
Doris Fields, PhD
The Collin Meeting Room is being reinvigorated with a new, special purpose, evolving as an education space for Placitas History. Periodically, PCL’s Collin Meeting Room (CMR) will focus on various areas and eras of Placitas History, including but not limited to stories of growing up in the Historic Village of Placitas, the first library, the first school, alternative living styles, notorious characters, alternatively designed living spaces, cemeteries, Placitas poets, and more. In September-October the CMR features “Wayne Jones’ Placitas: There Was a Time”. The exhibit is moving; through his black and white photographs, Wayne gives us a glimpse of the people and places of some 50 years ago. All are encouraged to visit the exhibit, make a note in the guest book, and join us for a reception in the CMR on October 16, at 5:00 PM, when Wayne’s family will focus on a selection of the people and places of Wayne’s Jones’ Placitas.
In November and December, the CMR will present stories of San Antonio de Las Huertas Land Grant, history of land grants, growing up in the village of Placitas, and the exciting activities of the current Land Grant community. An extensive list of topics, stories to be featured, is in the CMR. Everyone is invited to add to the list on the wall and sign up to share their stories of Placitas.
