Hola Amigos,
It’s been an exciting Spring at The Club at The Placitas Community Library¡
We’ve had 3 guest speakers, Elaine Alarid, Rogelio Salas-Silva, and Lesly C de Baca! Each offered opportunities to interact, learn, converse, and share. I hope to invite more speakers to expand our cultural and linguistic skills.
With summer fast-approaching, we’ve decided to keep the Club going even though several members will be traveling. Most are interested in continuing reading short stories, doing personal introductions, learning new vocabulary, and working on pronunciation. Several members have offered to “moderate” each Club meeting in June and July. Please volunteer to head up a meeting. You don’t have to teach, just organize the plan for that week. We will have a list of activities for each meeting so all you have to do is show up 10 minutes early and set up the tables and chairs. Afterwards, make sure the room is retuned to its original state and turn off the lights. Members have also indicated that they have some guest speakers lined up! Let me know what you’d like to accomplish this summer.
Today, I want to thank Eloise James for teaching us how to make her famous Chile con Carne Verde! And, she did it all in Spanish! Please consider “teaching” something to the group. So far, we’ve “learned” how to fry an egg, paint a wall, make the perfect cup of coffee, and more! Next week, Doug Barrett will use his medical expertise to explain how to “Evaluate Your Gait.” You won’t want to miss this one!
We read aloud every week. This week the group read a selection from the text, Situaciones.
For those who are part of the Short-Story Reading Group (we meet from 9:30-10:00), we will be reading Chapter 13 of the “yellow book.”
Today we handed out the short story, La Especialidad de la Casa, from the text, Situaciones. Please read and complete the exercises in preparation for next Wednesday.
Also, next week, Miguel Zulueta will be providing a one-hour introduction to The Berlitz Method. Please practice your Personal Introductions – you’ll have an opportunity to better present your introductions using the Berllitz Method. Miguel will also be offering private and small group, formal Berlitz classes this summer. Please contact him directly if you’re interested.
Everyone is rapidly improving their skills! Congratulations!
If you do not want to be included in this distribution list, please let me know and I’ll remove your name.
Hasta el miércoles,
Diane
