For December’s exhibition in the Collin Room, the Placitas Community Library Art Committee presents a unique array of handmade clothing and jewelry created to be worn and to embody a lesser-known yet expressive art form. You might say “wearable art” exemplifies the marriage of fashion and the visual arts. The exhibit presents art that is no less seriously intentioned than paintings on museum walls, yet infinitely more accessible when worn about town by those with an eye toward making an aesthetic statement.
Clothing and accessories from around the world accompany items made by local artisans including silk scarves, jewelry, jackets, purses, hats, and much more. All will be available for purchase with a percentage of sales going to the Placitas Library. On the night of the reception, models will wear select pieces from the exhibit, while other wearables will take an appropriate place on the gallery walls.
Featured artists are Carol Allen, Patty Baron, Cindy Chavez, Annie Gross, Lavon Maestas, Jules Nyquist, Talty Robinson, Judith Roderick, Pam Troutman, Erica Wendel-Oglesby, Lyle Yazzie, Linsay Locke, Elizabeth Potter, and Geri Verble, who served, with the assistance of Sue Ortiz, as the coordinator for this exhibit. Also participating will be Corrales notables Laura Balombini of Red Paint Studio and Linda Brauer with Nomades.
The public is invited to attend the reception on Friday, December 13, from 5 – 7 pm at the Placitas Community Library. International food and music will be featured.
