PCL will close the building and will not operate during our Special Operating Hours beginning Monday, November 16, through Monday, November 30. Return dates for borrowed items will be extended; however, items can be returned in the library’s book return at any time.

April 15, 2020, UPDATE: The library will remain closed until further notice.
March 30, 2020, UPDATE: The library will remain closed through April 30.
March 19, 2020, UPDATE: The library will remain closed through April 15. Please keep checked-out materials until after the library reopens.
March 17, 2020, UPDATE: All library events during April have been canceled.
March 14, 2020, UPDATE: As a precaution to protect the health of our patrons and staff, the Placitas Community Library will be closed through March 31. All library events and private meetings have been canceled. Some private meetings may have been relocated–please contact meeting organizers for details.
Free WiFi is still available outside near the building. Due dates for checked-out items have been extended.
Please check back for updates. Reopening the library on May 1 will be evaluated as the date approaches.
The volunteer staff members at Placitas Community Library have been instructed to stay home if they are ill, if they have any reason to believe that they have been exposed to COVID-19, or if they are in a high risk category. This will likely impact library services. If there is not enough staff able to work then we cannot open the library.
Every effort will be made to mitigate unscheduled closures or late openings; however, when it is necessary to close the library a message will be added to the top of our website as soon as we are able. Many of the long-time users of the library know that if the flag is up then we are open for business. We do not raise the flag in bad weather. It is also advisable to call the library before you plan a trip in. Our phone number is (505) 867-3355. If there is no answer, it is possible that we are not open. Please call back later, rather than leave a message–we are not able to return messages at this time. Remember that the library is normally closed on Mondays and Fridays.
Libraries in parts of the U.S. that have had cases of COVID-19, like the San Francisco Public Library, have canceled events, programs, and community use of meeting rooms. At Placitas Community Library we want our patrons to be safe and to be prepared if restricted measures are needed. All March, and some April, and May library events have been canceled. Please check our website for the most current information.
If you are planning to attend a non-library event or meeting at the library we recommend that you contact the event/meeting organizer to confirm that the scheduled event/meeting will proceed. Organizers’ contact information is found on the Meeting Room Calendar when you click on the event time. PCL has not restricted use of the meeting room; however, this may change. Meeting organizers should be aware that staff may not be available to let them in the building during normal hours of operation and should arrange for after-hours access as a precaution.
At the library we are disinfecting surfaces, keyboards, mice, phones, and doorknobs. We have hand sanitizer at the Help Desk and there are soap dispensers at all of the sinks for washing your hands. Hand washing is an effective measure for preventing many illnesses, including COVID-19.
Remember that you can manage your library account, check out eBooks and eAudio books, and access a large variety of electronic databases from our catalog.
Wishing you good health,
From all of us at PCL
