The Origins of the Village of Placitas Community Library

The Origins of the Village of Placitas Community Library: A Retrospective 1958 – 1981 with Kendra Lucero-Matteucci and Jillian Gonzales

Sunday, April 7 at 2 PM

Join members of the Village of Placitas on April 7th at 2:00pm to learn about the origins of a very special library that helped lead the way to our current beloved library. In the late-1950’s, Frances Escarcida and Adela Garcia had a vision that began with providing books in the local school hallway. By March 1966 the library was incorporated with a Board of Trustees. By the early 1980’s, the library became fully integrated into Placitas Elementary School and began to function as a school library. One of the library founders, Frances Escarcida, continued on as the school librarian for years to come.

The program will include a presentation to share this history and honor the people that helped bring a library to Placitas in 1958. We will have the opportunity to thank one founder in-person, Frances Escarcida, a Library Trustee and lifetime library advocate

Refreshments will be served following the program.
